And still waiting!

Allegedly with an Invitation to the Peace Corps (like the one I was notified on Friday that I would be receiving), an envelope of epic proportions overflowing with information about your country and job assignment is sent to your door as soon as can be in an express package. This probably has, in fact, happened – unfortunately, the fact it didn’t come yesterday despite being sent Thursday only serves to underscore that my little town in Michigan isn’t exactly the fastest or easiest place to receive mail.
Peculiarly, when I lived in El Portal, California, a tiny village outside of Yosemite with approximately 386 year-round residents, I received letters, postcards, and care packages from my mother within two days of her sending them. They arrived much faster than the items she sent to my brother in Princeton or my sister in Atlanta. But it doesn’t go the other way. I’ve noticed all summer, when my friends have told me they had put something in the mail earlier that week for me, that I still had days to wait for said letters to arrive. It’s a bit unfortunate, really.
The waiting continues, which is pretty standard as far as Peace Corps Invitations go. Luckily, a trip to Ann Arbor spent basking in the love of friends, followed by a honey harvest with Dov and soon to be Oren, promises to make the time pass. I managed a trip to Kiwanis (be on the lookout for some amazing postcards, which will begin circulating soon), a delicious potluck, Bluegrass Night with corresponding $1 PBRs, some climbing, Fleetwood Hippie Hash breakfast, and a picnic (not in that order at all).
Then Dov and I came home, ate some food, went to the Amish village, cracked open the bees, took some honey, found a black and yellow garden spider (eating many bees!), and had friend time. Dov’s brother died very suddenly and unexpectedly earlier this summer, and while I won’t pretend to know at all what that feels like, we are among the few people in our group of friends who have had members of our immediate family ripped away from us recently, and sometimes, talking about that and spending time acknowledging that makes sense.
Today we made some pancakes and I’m going to teach him how to sew. Expect a long, photoful update on this later.
Oren will get here and we’ll finish bottling before having a honey bear dress up party. Awwww yeah.
