Leaving soon has made my already scatter-brained self more hasty than normal. For example, I forgot to wish my beautiful, amazing, and talented mother a happy birthday via the blog on Monday (I did wish her happy birthday several times in real life, but if it’s not on the internet, does it really exist?). She hasn’t visibly aged for the past ten years, and I really hope I get those genes.
I also haven’t wrapped up a few financial issues that I was supposed to take care of while I was in Ann Arbor yesterday. You know what’s almost impossible? Banking over the phone. That’s tomorrow’s adventure.
Today I got vaccination number six of the year – influenza – which all government employees are required to receive these days. I think at staging next week I look forward to the typhoid vaccine (oral, not injection. This is great) and whatever strain of yellow fever hangs out in Paraguay. And then, hopefully, I won’t have to deal with vaccines for a good long while.
I need to start packing and planning a little better than I have. It’s difficult to begin. I went to a music festival with my friends this weekend and spent the first half of this week clinging to the afterglow of love and community. Now I have six days to get everything together. To wash all of my clothes in a functional machine. To have phone dates with people I won’t get a chance to speak to for a while. To buy a few more things that might make me more comfortable. I gotta go use my sewing machine while I still can.
Those of you who want a letter while I’m down south should click here and fill out the form as explained. I’m not sure how much postage will cost but I’ll try to mail you. I mean it. Be warned: I don’t plan to keep much of a physical diary except in the form of letters, so you might catch a letter on a bad day.
I have a lot of photos from Harvest Gathering, but since I didn’t feel like carrying my camera around (the lovely Christina had hers) I took almost all of the pictures right next to the van where I stored my camera.
Off to pack. And bank.
