I’m sitting in a hotel in Miami digesting the heap of Cuban food I just ate with about twenty of my new best friends. Let’s recap the day:
8:30 – Mom and I eat most of the last of the peaches. We leave the last few as “condolence peaches” for when I am gone.
9:15 – Arrival at airport. I tear up while hugging my dog goodbye.
9:30 – Mom and I say our farewells. Tears happen.
10:00 (Central Time) – I arrive in Chicago and almost immediately find five other people who are also flying to Miami to go to Paraguay with the Peace Corps.
4:30 (Eastern Time again) – Flight lands in Miami. I wish to nap. Instead I meet about ten people.
6:00 – Check in at the hotel. I meet about 15 more people.
7:30 – I am so hungry. Wait! We are eating food. It is tasty. I still have about ten more volunteers I need to meet.
9:00 – Return to hotel.
Now, I am about to go to bed.
I have called my mom so many times today. Often it is just to say “I love you” while I can still do that really easily. It is nice.
Okay. Sleepy now.
